May 27, 2006 - Day One The Arcata Plaza After an entire year off, the mighty Royal Kinetic Madness Band re-forms once again for the kick off of the Great Arcata to Ferndale World Championship kinetic Sculpture race. 10:06 AM - Breakfast at the Alibi. Yes, they serve FOOD too. Good pre-race grub! 11:00 - Slowly, one by one - the band assembles with a minimum of fanfare in the BofA parking lot despite the year that has passed. Mass amounts of sunscreen are applied. (call time was 10:45. oh well) 11:15 - After waiting for Gordon to get his crap together - the brightly clothed menagerie heads on over to the plaza. 11:30 - A great circle of color and music forms on the northwest corner or the Plaza. Confused spectators crowd around. Odd creatures and arcata hippies groove to the RKMB beats. The band plays on. 
 11:45 - Anticipation grows as the noon whistle approaches. The band plays Touch Me. 12:00 - The siren sounds and the Kinetic Madness begins again. Sculptures zoom around the plaza. The band plays Star Wars for the Sand Skiff sculpture! May the force be with you. “Flash Gourdon” Fires its rockets in front of Toby and Jack’s 12:15 - The crowd starts to disperse as the band gets louder. Some of the band goes home. The die-hard head for the Dunes of Manila. 12:16 - Refreshments are procured for the trip to Manila. 12:28 - 6 band members pile into my truck. Seat Belt laws are violated.... The group of musical miscreants follows the sculptures from the Arcata Bottoms to Manila Chesty plays for the crowds gathered along side the race course ...from the comfort of the passenger seat.
